Hi, everybody! I hope all of you are having a wonderful summer. Just got together with Heidi and Eileen at Donovans for dinner. It was a great time travelling down memory lane. I'm glad to see that somethings don't change. (even the hamburgers are as amazing as I remembered.) I'm looking foward to seeing all of you at the Cadet Reunion. It will be a great time!
Talk to you soon, Joanne

I hope that it was Donovan's of Woodside, not Bayside.

Hey Eileen Just had a thought pop into my head - and that could be either dangerous or scary. What about the Gaynor's - are they still around?? Cheryl's son lives in her parents house on 65th Place - am going to drop him a note to see if he'll put Cheryl in touch with me. Keep in touch about Kingston Kathi

Hi Kathi! Have all four of the Gaynor's on my "master list" but don't have any contact info yet. I know Michael passed away a number of years ago. I'll contact Dennis McCoy and see what he knows; Peggy McCoy kept in touch with Jean Cramer who used to see Marie Gaynor--who knows? Will advise when I know more.
Hey Anaig family!! Do any of you know the whereabouts of any of the Gaynor's? You lived closest to them (I think). We're talking about Patricia, Mary Beth and Susane (all fifers).
Looks like I should be able to make it on 8/14. Now I have to call and see if there are tickets still available! Talk with you soon!

OK Ladies & Gents, we have a place and date for our Reunion! All Cadets are invited regardless of how long or when you were a member! Don't worry about what you look like or "feel funny" about seeing people you haven't seen in ages. Remember, we shared a camaraderie that was special, and from what I've recently heard, it still very much there! So come and join us!
We will be meeting at the Mt. Carmel Hall located at 934 Stuart Place in Franklin Square (western Nassau Co) on Saturday, 10/9 from 2pm to 6pm. This should leave us enough time to "travel to" and "hang out after" if so desired. The hall is right off New Hyde Park Road, between Jericho Tpke (south of Northern State & LIE) and Tulip Ave. (north of the Southern State Pkwy & Sunrise Hwy). The hall holds 100 people. Cost: $35 for the Cadet; $15 for spouse/adult guest. No kids at this time (want to make sure we have enough room for us first!). If space allows, can add kids later; need to know now how many extra seats you might need. Will decide on this after 9/15 response date.
Please contact Susan Homkow no later than 9/15 at shomkow@optonline.net for details on where to send your remittance. The sooner, the better; we have things to buy and room for kids depends on this! Be sure to include the following information, which will be kept confidential: (1) Last Name, Maiden Name, First Name (2) Mailing Address (3) Daytime & Evening Phone #'s (4) e-mail address; write NONE if you don't have one (5)Number of adults; number of kids you would like to seat, if possible (6) What year(s) you were in the Corps--think about what grade you were in (7) Will you need overnight accommodations?
It would be appreciated if you would bring instruments, pictures, beer, wine and/or desserts! We're planning a relatively simple menu (sausage & peppers - Mr. S' recipe; Hotdogs - can't be a Cadet gathering without them; heroes; salads). If you'd like to bring food, that's OK too. If hot, be sure it's in a "steam-table depth" 1/2 tray; if cold, use something disposable-don't want to lose your Tupperware!
There is plenty of parking (own lot); there are about 6 steps up to get in; the bathrooms are downstairs (Hey! This is important for some of us!). I believe smoking is allowed; worse come to worse, we go outside!
There is a motel quite close; if enough people have the need, perhaps we can get a "group rate". Be sure to let Susan know on this point.
I know there are Cadets out there who were at the Homecoming but aren't listed as "members" on this board. I'm in the process of trying to obtain their contact info from the Alumni Assn. In the meantime, if you are in contact with anyone else who was a Cadet (we've come up with approx. 160 names and know that's not all of us), please forward this site address and information to them.
If you have any questions (didn't I give enough info?) or want to chat with us about this, feel free to contact one of the following:
Kathi (Murphy) Bayer at: KathiBayer2002@yahoo.com Susan (O'Neill) Homkow at: shomkow@optonline.net Eileen (Strucek) Metzing at: armymom91wm6@aol.com Joe Tomazic at: joezic@yahoo.com
Hope to hear from you ALL soon!
Best regards, Eileen

Hi Everyone - This is Helen Fahey Fitzmartin. I just found out about this website and have enjoyed everyone's messages. I have very fond memories of cadets. I started out with a bugle (for about 2 weeks) went onto fife for a while and then ended up in the color guard. What fun we had! I even stood in for Eileen once or twice, though not very successfully. Remember going for lemon cokes? I live in northern Westchester, married to Kevin. The reunion sounds wonderful! Hope to hear from you.

Hi Helen--good to hear from you! Saw Maureen at the Homecoming; missed Jimmy! Hope you all can come to the Reunion. Do you know how to contact Pat Holden or Frannie Oltmann? We're trying to get info on Elaine Ehresmann, but do you have that also?
REMINDER TO THOSE MEMBERS OF THIS BOARD WHO HAVE A "HIDDEN" ADDRESS! The only way you can see if someone has sent you a message is if you first sign on as a member! Then look up at the very top of the screen; your name will show and it will say "Hey, so and so, you have X new messages, X are new". I know I've sent some and either that person hasn't come back to the board or doesn't realize they have messages waiting (like me--who took two months to see my name and the fact that I had messages waiting!). If you sign on as a "guest" all the time you may want to register as a member so that you can contact others privately thru this board (if their address is hidden) as well as see who the other "members" are. Just thought I'd pass it along!
Take care and be well!
