Right now my free time is almost non-existent. It is football season and I cook a weekly pasta dinner for the 54 young men on the team. I just transferred into a new position ( I will not comment about the wonderful training - HAH),and I am gearing up for the CSEA state convention in DC and the start of a new season with the Panther Players and the beginning of Sunday School classes - I teach high school students. As for money - that is not a big deal but I have found that most organizations say thanks for the donation and still use the money where they want it to go. Would like to have more information though.

I will be in touch with the schools principal, Mary Basile, this week. I am certain that they have absolutely no equipment for a marching musical group, ie, drums with harnesses, horns, fifes?, flags, and uniforms (wonder what happened to the old ones, not that they'd be any good any more) I think the plan is to make it more of a marching band type, using their existing orchestra, which has sax's, flutes, etc. Which really is not a bad idea, considering they already have trained students on these instruments and a marching school band presents more opportunity for competition if they so desire. As for donations, please feel free to send money to me, until the Cadets actually start asking for it.

I have about 30 seconds of the Cadets on video from the year we played for a visit from some Monsignor, I think. Taped off an old 8mm, no sound, fast tracking. The color guard is marching in place with their legs pumping almost to their chins and the drummers come circling in and around like one of those old silent pictures where everything is moving fast. It was filmed in front of the rectory in the area between the school and church. Anyone else have any film of the Cadets? It was really fun to see.

I was a Cadet from about 1949 through graduation in 1952, I may even have played Fife a few years after that as my teachers Vin Kobel and Frank Zampino played in the "Minutemen" a Professional Ancient Fife & Drum Corps. They eventually got me into the Minutemen. I remember going from the "capes" to the military officer uniform, I remember beingpromoted to Captain ! Owney McGoldrick was always getting promoted , Major, Col. I don't think he ever made General, but he did a lot of good for the corps. I see my dear old friend Frank Zampino has sent in a lot of data, he was a great Fifer as was Vinny Kobel, they were probably in the top ten in the NY area at that time. I will try to contact Frank as I know Vinny has long passed., whenever the website approves of my whatever. It was a great group !! Bruce Brennan
