Hey Kat, It's Anna... you're up late... Before I turn over the old Parish bulletins to the memorabilia people, I scanned a few pictures. A few of the pictures on the covers of the old parish bulletins were of the cadetes and cheerleaders. I put them up for everyone to see here: www.stmarysdramaguild.org/alumnicadetcheers.htmHope everyone can find themselves in the picture!

Hi, Kathy Young! My brother, Ed, tells me your brother, Tommy is within walking distance to him! How do you like life with 4 sons? I think working as part of a team, giving and taking orders, etc, thru Drum Corps prepared us well for this part of life!
Kathi Murphy--you're thinking of Walter Sisson who was living in Middle Village the last I knew. Eddie spoke with him a few years ago. John Griffin and Dennis Messemer (who was in Florida at the time) got together a few years back. Don't know where the Nealons are (although I know Tom passed away very young at 27(?); that's the last time I saw Fran and John Keenan) Are you still in touch with Cheryl? If so, please send my regards.
Jackie A--Of course you should come prepared to play that drum! Call Eddie and ask him to bring the contrabass!
Been too crazy around here; haven't had a chance to call Mary Griffin, but I'll get there!
Who else is out there? Let's hear from you! Be well!

Oh My Gosh!! Could this really be happening?? Just spoke to Joe over the phone, he visited me in York, PA about 4 years ago. That's where my husband, Rich and my son James (11) live. Time passes so quickly and a reunion would be great in Sept./Oct.
Keep me posted. BUT EILEEN, FITTING INTO THOSE UNIFORMS!!! Let's just say over the years, I've grown wiser but expanded a bit!!!
A good place to find persons as well is classmates.com , a free registration, I've registered at BVM and St. Michael's have been finding old friends, pretty neat. Maybe we can e-mail those on that website alerting them to this website!! Being a cadet was one of the highlights of my life, oh the age of innocence gone too quickly!
Best to all, Alicia

Nice to hear from you, Alicia! It seems most of us share the same sentiments as you as far as Cadets go... yes, the highlight of many of our lives... I look forward to seeing you at the reunion, pass the word to all you can - if you see anyone on the sites you mention, please let them know as well. All the best to you as well, Sue

Hi Cadets: Some of you may remember that I was fife instructor during the middle fifties, and am a charter member of the corps from its origination in 1938. I must confess the name Blue Angels is new to me. I was Lyre bell soloist (we only had one lyre bell)and was the smallest kid in the Corps, but had prominent role marching right behind the drum major (Bill "Nimmie" Thomas who I believe still lives at 41-30-68th St Woodside) leading the fifes and bugles whenever they played. I even wrote a march that we played called the Spirit of St Mary's. I can still play it. I wrote it when I was about 13 yrs old, and we played it often. I do not live in New York, but in Los Altos California, about 30 miles south of San Francisco. I am planning to be on the east coast around the time of the dramaguild homecoming on June 12 and am very seriously considering attending the homecoming. If the Cadets reunion is around that time 6/1-15 it would be more incentive to go, but I have no plans as yet to be back there in the fall. What is the present status of the Corps, is it still in business?

Hi All! This is so great. Really bringing back the memories. We had so much fun together. Alicia, I just dug out a picture ( I won't say an old Picture) You were front and center, Vinny, Jimmy, Diane Limitone, Joe and I are also in it. I would love to attach it if I could figure out how the scanner works. A reunion would be fabulous. I would love to hear from anyone, my e-mail address is Pat@McKnightRealtors.com Patty O'Neil Flugman

Helllo Alicia!! Good to hear from you! Don't feel badly; I'm sure no one's uniform fits anymore!
Frank C. - My father, Walter Strucek, took over as Director of The Cadets from Owen McGoldrick in approx l963. The "older" kids in the corps at that time were Charles Markey (fife), Artie Griffin (fife), Maureen (Mary) Griffin(snare drum), Walter Sisson(bugle), George Reiss(bugle), Kathy Murphy (majorette), Greta Norbeck (Color Guard) to name a few. At that point, I was 8 years old and the above-named were in their early teens (don't hate me guys if I have this wrong!). Do any of these members ring a bell? Perhaps they had older siblings that were in your group? Or you taught some of these members? The fife instructor when I joined was Jim Martin (I remember the first thing he did was check the front teeth of all the potential fifers! Buck teeth could be a problem!) Put on your thinking cap and come up with some more names to "fill the gap" between between the 50's and the 60's. Was the corps still all boys when you were part of it?

Hey Joe, why dont you post it in the parish bulletin for crying out loud! Anyway, yes, thats a much younger and slimmer version of me after I left the Cadets and joined the Sunrisers. For more pics and music go to www.Sunrisers.com. You'll find dozens of pics of me and other Cadet alumni such as Dave and Pete Franceschina and John Griffin. But I owe all my musical ability to the years I spent playing in St. Marys and the encouragement I received from Mr. Strucek.
