Both my sister and I are alumni of St. Mary's ('72 for me). My father was an artist and friend to the former Fr. Kiernan. At the request of Fr. Kiernan, my father paineted and then donated a painting of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the rectory when I was a very little girl. There are pictures of me standing in front of the statue when I was maybe 6 years old, and my father used those pictures to create the image on canvas. He passed away in 1983 from cancer and many of his paintings are still on Long Island in various homes, hospitals, and other institutions where he donated his work. Is this painting still at St. Mary's? His name was Anthony Malkas and it would appear on the painting. As an aside... Both my sister and I have done well in life. My sister is the Director of Breast Cancer research at Indiana State University and I am the Assistant Director of Curriculum at a regional technical center and will complete my doctorate of education in the coming year.
