Very upset to hear that St. Mary's will be closing as of June 05. I understand that the children will be transferred to St. Sebastians. My heart goes out to both the children and the staff of St. Mary's.

St. Mary's -Winfield School Rescue Campaign
St. Mary’s Home School Association has been challenged to save our school, with a strict time frame in which to do so. Through God’s good graces, along with Alumni support and Corporate Sponsorship, we are confident this goal is within our reach.
We are reaching out to the Parent community affected by these closings. We strongly contend there is a need for an alternative school choice. St. Mary’s is geographically located and proportionally sized to provide the private education expected by the parochial system. Overcrowding smaller schools is not the answer. Sending children to chopping block schools is cruel. Children need and crave stability in their private and educational lives. For many children, school is the only stable entity.
St. Mary’s is the first Catholic School in Queens; you are part of her family, a historic piece of a school that has served the community for 147 years. We feel her history needs to be preserved, her doors opened to all who seek an education of substance.
One of our challenges has been to raise the $300,000.00 needed to just ensure the 2005/2006 school term, and it must be accomplished in a very short period of time. Any contribution you can make at this time is greatly appreciated. Another contingency is that we need to ensure her stability over 3-5 year period. We, the parents are willing to work hard in the mission of preserving your schools continued existence, will you help us by considering a commitment pledge over this time. If you can only make a one-time donation, we are extremely grateful for your support.

When you send your donation, we request a prayer at the time you place it for mailing.
BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, PRAY FOR YOUR CHILDREN YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW
Should our mission prove unsuccessful, all donations will be returned. If you have any questions, you can contact Ms. Carol Cavanaugh at 917-922-0161 or Elizabeth Gleason at 347-245-4780 (Elizabetgleason@aol.com) remember to drop the H

I was very sad to hear that St. Mary's will be closing. The children are going to end up at another school that is probably busting at the seams! How OVER crowded with St. S'bstns. be?

St. Sebastian's already has over 400 students! If they're to "adopt" students from both Queen of Angels & St. Mary's their enrollment could potentially be over 600! That's ridiculous for a school that size!!!
